Machining copper on the lathe
Machining copper on the lathe with a brazed carbide boring bar. Stirling engine power piston cylinder from machined copper tubing test. The 2” water pipe is not very round and must be bored on the lathe to a close tolerance for sealing of the piston. Copper was tubing was chosen for its ease of silver solder to the engine. I show you how the carbide tip lathe tool will cut.
I was quite happy with the as turned surface finish, after boring. I did however, in the end make a non directional patern with 1200 paper. Copper tubing is expensive and this test was done from
parts out of the scrap bin. The cylinder was cut to lengh and sivler brazed to the cold side of the engine.
