Spindle thread protector for a Logan Lathe. Part1,This video will show you how to chuck the stock to make parallel surfaces to prepare for drilling and boring operations. Made on the lathe which it will be used, this 2.25x8 tpi, Spindle thread protector is made from cast iron. A lathe spindle nose thread protector is used on the lathe when no chuck or face plate is mounted to the lathe spindle, and the precision threading is exposed to possible damage.
Coming video will show the threading and fitting of the protector to the spindle. This part is often desirable when working between centers and as close to the headstock of the lathe for the most accuracy the lathe can produce. The thread protector can prevent accidental damage to the spindle nose where the shoulder meets the threaded portion and location accuracy is delivered by these surfaces.
